UCGIS:
Texas A&M University Corpus Christi is a member of the UCGIS. During the last three decades rapid growth has occurred in the field of geographic information. With this growth have come diverse notions concerning which direction the field should take. In a effort to ensure that a coherent view emerges, a broad representation of universities and professional associations have come together to form the University Consortium for Geographic Information Science (UCGIS).

ABET:
Accreditation is a voluntary, non-governmental process of peer review that simply assures that a program or institution meets established quality standards by requiring an educational institution or program to meet certain, defined standards or criteria. Accreditation is sometimes confused with certification. In general, institutions and programs are accredited, and individuals are certified. Texas A&M University - Corpus Christi's Geographic Information Science program is the only Texas university with an accredited degree program. A&M-CC is accredited under the program title of "Geographic Information Science for all Applied Science programs."

Course Outcomes
We have determined several outcomes that you will achieve in your classes in GISc. You might not cover each in every course, but our goal is to meet each outcome listed.Program outcomes are narrower statements that describe what students are expected to know and be able to do by the time of graduation. These relate to the skills,knowledge, and behaviors that students acquire in their matriculation through the program.
- An understanding of the basic principles of mathematics, physics, and computer science; the professional skills; and modern tools for professional practice in the geospatial sciences as well as for graduate education.
- An understanding of the principles in geospatial sciences and understanding of professional practice and ethical issues, including the ability to design and conduct experiments, as well as to analyze and interpret data.
- The ability to work in a team and develop problem-solving skills that include oral and written communication skills to effectively communicate professional geospatial information.
- An awareness and utilization of external organizations and institutions that provide useful geospatial data sets and their relationships to traditional and contemporary societal issues.
- A recognition of the need for continued learning and development of leadership skills through involvement in volunteer professional organizations and societies.
Educational Objectives
Program educational objectives are broad statements that describe the career and professional accomplishments that the program is preparing graduates to achieve.
- All graduates are expected to be able to accomplish the acquisition, analysis, and management of geospatial data and information.
- All graduates are capable of continuing paths towards graduate studies and/or employment in the fields of Geomatics and Geographic Information Systems.
- All graduates are prepared to become Registered Professional Land Surveyors, but not all graduates will choose this option.
Assessment
Our goal is to provide the highest quality education. We strive to meet our outcomes and objectives. We will conduct a series of assessments to help us determine the quality of the education. We use direct (test scores, SIT/RPLS scores, and capstone projects) and indirect (course assessments, alumni surveys, and exit interviews) methods to determine if we are meeting our goals.
